In an academic perspective, the tour was very rewarding. It provided ample inspiration for both teaching and research-centered projects within the framework of entrepreneurship teaching.
Study Excursions
One of the ways Øresund Entrepreneurship Academy seeks to inspire and promote best practice to entrepreneurship educators in the Øresund Region is to arrange study excursions to some of the leading entrepreneurship education centers.
In May 2009, the Academy invited a group of fourteen educators and staff from universities in the Øresund Region on a week long study trip to Boston, Massachusetts. The primary aim of the trip was to learn about new teaching methods and best practice in entrepreneurship education.
Aim of the excursion
The main purpose of the excursion were for the group to become inspired about new ways of teaching – new content and pedagogies.
Furter goals for the trip:
I’ve learned a lot from informal conversations with the other members of the group. After a trip like this we know each other quite well and it’s easy to discuss and develop different issues.
Destination
Boston and Massachusetts have since the early days been known as a knowledge intensive region. The total undergraduate and graduate enrolment of students attending independent colleges and universities in Massachusetts is nearly 250,000 compared to 150,000 university students in the Øresund Region.
Boston is also known as a city with a high degree of entrepreneurial activity much of which is driven by the many world class teaching institutions. In contrast to other heavy manufacturing cities which have suffered after 1950, Boston’s universities took active part in the transformation of the regional into an entrepreneurial and digital economy.
Harvard Business School Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, MIT Entrepreneurship Center, Northeastern University and Babson College are some of the institutions in the Boston area that work with entrepreneurship education in particular.
